It is reported that modern tailpu shipbuilding has signed a contract with Swedish tanker owner Marinvest to build two 50, 000 deadweight tonnage oil tankers, which are expected to be delivered in 2019. The two oil tankers will be long leases by methanol producer Methanex and its subsidiary Waterfront Shipping.
It is understood that the ship is similar to the previously delivered MR type oil tanker, which is the world's first methanol power carrier. Compared with conventional diesel-powered ships, the methanol transporter can reduce sulfur oxide emissions by 95% and nitrogen oxide emissions by 30%.
